Warm and crispy but the fillings were not as flavourful as I had imagined!

My first time trying the oyster cake and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. Oysters are layered with pork fillings before dipping into a batter mixture to be deep fried in the hot oil. The peanuts on top provide some crunch and texture to the cake. Although the flavour is nice, I wished that it could be a bit hotter (freshly fried). Nonetheless, it’s a good choice as a side dish, accompanying any meal at Maxwell Market.

One of the last stalls in Singapore selling oyster cakes from Fuzhou. Was introduced to this stall 30 years ago by a colleague. Glad they made it through the years.

My very first time trying Fu Zhou Oyster Cake- filled with oyster, minced meat, prawn, and cilantro ($2.50 ea). It tasted good but it was quite oily and there wasn't much filling inside.

It was $2.50 a piece so I suppose that's why the ingredients inside is very limited (compared to a $3.50 one from a different shop) You don't really taste a full oyster or prawn taste or feel their texture. But overall it tasted similar to what I had in my mom's hometown. My other complaint is the oyster cakes were very, very dark brown, seems like the oil used to deep fry it has been reused for a long time.

The oyster cake is good, just wished it was hot and fresh. It wasn't too busy so I guess I got some that were already made. There is a decent amount of oyster inside the cake.
