Fishball Bak Chor Mee (2) @ Hock Lai SengMade my way in the blistering heat to Maxwell to get fried carrot cake sticks but realized there was a small queue here. In Singapore, that usually means it’s good, and boy was it good! The noodles were just right, springy and firm. The sauce coated it perfectly as it clings to noodles as you consume it, the fried pork lard also tasted rather fresh. The soup was also great, a subtle meat and salt flavor permeates the ingredients, simple but very effective. Unlike other BCMs, the minced meat was actually full of texture, and flavor after absorbing the soup. The fishball was also bouncy and had a very smooth bite, but still firm enough to grip(or it could be a testament to my chopstick skills, but probably not). The prep took awhile as each bowl is individually made, as a result there’s quite a wait even if it’s a small queue, but I can assure you it’s worth the wait. Especially at $6. Great meal, will be back.9/10
Very nice but need to cut down on the vinegar, as became too bitter. Noodles quality is quite good, and braised mushrooms quite nice. No line during early Sunday morning. Can recommend for those who like strong vinegar taste.
Helmed by a young hawker who is passionate about his cooking of a Teochew style fishball Bak Chor Mee.Ordered the small bowl ($8) of chef recommendations to try it out.All the ingredients that made up of pig liver, a prawn, pork slices, minced pork, soft & bouncy handmade fishballs, dried sole fish, sliced fish cake in a bowl of flavourful soup that’s well balanced in taste. The mee bok was well cooked, it was evenly coated with the rich sauces that was a mixture of chili sauce, ketchup, black vinegar & braised sliced mushrooms.I am totally satisfied with my bowl of BCM.
Really love the fishball texture and the noodles. Cooked it well perfectly. Soupy is good with pig liver and minced meat. Give it a try but do come early as crowd tends to build up during lunch hour.
Best fish all soup in town!! A must! Hock Lai Seng 福来成 serves the best fish ball soup in town! Super flavorful broth with fresh ingredients, the friendly staff completes the experience
Satisfying breakfast of dry kway teow mee with a slightly tart spicy sauce (note:additional cut chillies were added by me). This is zen in a nutshell, a lovely balance of flavours that burst on my early morning palette with every bite, and a generous amount of condiments (sweet minced meat, smooth fishcake n fishballs, tender mushrooms and big chunks of lard) giving it an additional dimension on textures. (Ps i ordered the smallest portion at $4.50. i think u will get more ingredients if u order the bigger one at a very reasonable $6)The boss also blended the right amount of sauce into the mix- it was absorbed by the noodles after my first quick few spoonfuls into this heaven of bcm.Pls come try if u r in the vicinity 🙂
famous famous good bak chor mee! one of the best ive had. the stall is run by a young couple. the service is warm and with good hygiene conditions as well!we got their best seller ② dry bak chor mee ($6). the mee kia is cooked al dente and therefore very springy. it goes really well with the chili oil which is rather fragrant yet not overpowering the rest of the flavours. they also provide ketchup which i find slightly sweet so recommend to go with thw chili oil if your spice tolerance is okthe noodles comes with a separate bowl of pork broth soup that is so flavourful and full of ingredients 😩 all are fresh and handmade, the meat is very tender and the fishball super bouncy. this is a stall that bak chor mee fans shouldn’t miss!
Wow such a simple dish and it was executed so perfectly, I would say this would be the top 3 favourite bak chor mee for me anytime.Came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and luckily it wasn't crowded. There were only 2 people in front of me and I got my noodles within 10 minutes. If you ask me before eating, just looking at it you know the standard is there just by looking at the colours and the smell of it. I ordered the $6 one and I thought it was quite okay portion, though the bigger portion would have more prawns in the soup that's all.First have to say the flavours of the noodles was just perfect. Just the first bite and it was like having the flavours singing in the mouth. The condiments complemented each other so well and noodles were very well cooked. Mushrooms were so soft and the slight kick from the chili really perks you up.The soup was so rich in flavours as well and the ingredients in the soup were also very well cooked. Liver was so fresh and so nicely cooked it was soft and tender. The minced meat can melt in your mouth and the fishballs were so soft and bouncy. All in all hard to find a perfect dish like this for the price and hard competitor to beat. I think he has surpassed his master.
